Francis Center Highlights

Although my office isn’t located in the Francis Center, I’ve spent a lot of time there since the PA program moved in earlier this month. We have hosted 2 interview days for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, met one-on-one with prospective students, and of course had some meetings with the DPT and PA programs.

We are thrilled with how wonderful the building looks, and how much attention went into planning the layout and look of the Francis Center. There are windows and sky lights to let in plenty of natural light, state-of-the-art technology, beautiful artwork on the walls, and of course a functional space that meets the needs of both the DPT and PA programs.

The first floor is largely dedicated to the DPT program. There are several shared spaces, however, that the PA program will use too, including:

  • a state-of-the art anatomy lab,
  • classroom space dedicated to the PA program,
  • a computer lab for student use as well as teaching,
  • a student lounge and commons area,
  • a fitness center, and
  • spacious locker rooms.

The PA program is housed on the second floor. (Take a look at our online photo album). There is a large classroom used primarily for first-year students in the didactic portion of the curriculum and 5 small group rooms with tables, marker boards, and eventually monitors for students to do groupwork. We are especially excited about the simulation suite, which will feature a HARVEY cardiopulmonary patient simulator in one simulation room, and 5 simulation labs complete with tables and equipment to mimic a patient exam room. There is a teaching area with patient tables for instruction, and we will coordinate standardized patients for PA students to practice on. Additionally, there are cameras in each of the simulation rooms so that faculty may observe and evaluate the patient simulations from a video room.

All-in-all, we couldn’t be happier with the Francis Center. We hope you’ll come visit campus and tour the facility first-hand. Our first Open House is scheduled for Saturday March 24, 2012.
